Yep, I'm a Mackerel Snapper

Yes, it's a derogatory term for a Catholic, but like many other groups who have reclaimed derogatory terms for their own use, what the hell, I'm gonna' use it for me.

I'm new to this Catholic thing. Compared to my cradle Catholic compatriots, I am a spiritual babe in the woods. My pastor calls me newbie.

For that matter, I'm new to the Christian thing, too. I spent the majority of my life as an agnostic, unwilling to commit to a specific religion. I researched a lot of 'em -- Buddhism, Hinduism, Judaism, Islam, Wicca, Christianity. Once I decided Christianity was the right place for me, then I had to determine which denomination to go with. I went to a number of different churches and read about all the major Christian denominations. Somehow, though, I just kept returning to Catholicism.

So, I took the plunge (nearly literally) and decided to convert to Catholicism. In a meaningful, joyful Easter Vigil Mass on April 15, 2006, I was baptized, confirmed, and received my first communion.

So, yep, I'm a Mackerel Snapper and proud of it.

That's to bad. Any religion based on guilt is something that should not be entered lightly.

My experience hasn't been one of guilt -- maybe I'm not doing it right!? :P I'm still new, after all. :)
